The Kill Artist…well worth reading

This is the first in what seems to be a good series featuring Mossad agent Gabriel Allon. I previously read the most recent series episode Black Widow and really liked it, so I thought I’d check out the series from the beginning…I’m glad that I did. The plot of a Mossad agent protagonist tracking down PLO bad guy terrorists is old and worn, but Daniel Silva is a very talented author and has turned out quite an entertaining tale around it. The book is very well written, and unlike so many Amazon E published books, it is properly edited. The characters are well developed, it’s suspenseful, steadily paced, and well put together. And it's full of twists and surprises. There is a fair amount of action and the best part of that (at least for me) is Gabriel Allon is not a super hero...far from it. The only thing negative I could find was a few very minor inaccuracies/inconsistencies, but nothing that would spoil the story. It also appears to be very well researched, and the author attempts to explain both sides of the very complex Israeli –Palestinian issue without taking sides. I rate the book 4 stars and highly recommend it. If you like this genre you will not be disappointed.

This book was tedious. I have just read The Unlikely Spy and enjoyed the plot and the characters (though the ending was a bit far fetched) so I ordered this book hoping it would be similarly well done. But it was not, there was virtually no character development, the plot was ponderous and predictable, then ending - hopeless.
One reviewer said ' I did finish The Kill Artist but it was a chore, I was relieved when it was over. ' which sums it up well.

This thing was a real disappointment. Gabriel Allon is a skilled and interesting art restorer but a boring and incompetent assassin--that seems backwards. I was still trying to love this novel when Silva has a very famous super model who pines for dull Gabriel go undercover--uh, no. No. No. No. After that, the plot is all over the place, just an exercise to produce enough words to equal a book.
Nevertheless, I can forgive most plot problems for a good character, but Allon never comes to life or takes charge of this book that's supposed to be about him. I did finish The Kill Artist but it was a chore, I was relieved when it was over.
