Comprehensive source on Jewish philosophy

I have yet to make as much use of this book as I had hoped, but bought it because I was so impressed upon poring over the copy used by my professor. I appreciate how it is set up, with commanding chapter and section headings whose very titles force me to read further. I enjoy being able to open the book at random, without having to read each chapter in sequence. I strongly recommend this book.

This book is a profound study of the intimate relationship between God and oneself. It makes one constantly aware of the presence of God in my life - from the moment of awakening to the last sense of presence before falling asleep - having the knowledge (with relief) that God is with me all through the night.

We are shown how simple life can be if only we would place ourselves entirely in God's Hands. To think too much about tomorrow, next week, or next year is a waste of time because it is only today, this hour, this minute that determines our future at the final moment of our life.

Our dependence on God should constantly be our rule of life. To know that He is with me every minute of every day, loving me, forgiving me, guiding and giving me the strength and courage to accept His Will, is beyond imagination.

This is a wonderful book to have at hand. One can pick it up and read any one or more pages at any time and be refreshed by the knowledge that God is really here at my side, caring and loving me. All I have to do is "relax" and let Him take hold of me. The peace that comes is unfathomable!

I offer only one criticism, which is crucial to enhancing the appeal of this book to the public; the cover. The drawing is very unsettling. One gets a sinister feeling of evil. Since the content of the book concerns the love of God and His relationship with man, the title is way off the mark.

This book offers easily understood integration between psychology and theology. As a psychologist, I highly recommend it to those interested in learning more about both true knowledge, and healthy self love and love for others.

An easy, simple yet interesting read. Helpful or not, depends

The author wrote on page 3 that "if there is only one idea you take from this book, my request is that you make it this one. Leadership is not about your competencies, skills and personality. It's first and foremost about being in touch with what you care about and then going for it." Indeed, he really had skipped much of the usual personality traits and case studies found in most leadership books, and elaborated thoroughly on his "Future-Engage-Deliver" premise and the captioned steps. Good for starters who need immediate solution, like simple language and enjoy good quotes. For those who had read more than three leadership books before and want more insights, I suggest them to give this a pass.

Balanced Psalms

This volume contrasts to another Psalms commentary that I have used, which was dry and focused on the use of the Psalms for 'cultic' purposes. Given tha nature of the Psalms, The Preacher's Commentary gives a more vibrant and useful perspective. It still mentions background and use, but looks into the writer's situation with empathy. He then draws from it challenges and applications for modern readers. More detail would have been useful, but given the number of Psalms to be covered in the volume, this would not have been practical. It was quite readable for a non-theologian.

good news in the psalms

I am most familiar with Don Williams' teaching and preaching from the gospels and Pauline epistles. Smiliarly, these two volumes covering all 150 psalms offer a thorough study in historical context, culture, language and theology. Don is skilled in his approach to communicate from the text demonstrating practical theollogy and personal applications as he deals with each passage.
