Really fantastic

Simply one of the best books to detail some of the important social, cultural and political discourses that power the machinations of racialised life in Australia. Although a bit dense at times, this is a highly readable text that respects the complexity of the concepts at hand without descending into academic drivel. A must-read for anyone with an interest in ways of conceptualising racial difference and, importantly, racial inequality.

About the Author
Ola W. Barnett is a Distinguished Professor Emerita of Psychology at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California.� She earned her undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Psychology at UCLA, specializing in Learning.� Her initial research centered on batterers, and she later studied battered women and dating violence.� She has coauthored two best-selling Sage books (with Alyce D. LaViolette) on why battered women stay with abusive partners.� These books provide a scientific explanation, grounded in learning theory, for understanding the obstacles battered women face in trying to break free.� She remains active in the field of family violence by reviewing articles for a large number of journals and performing as an external grant reviewer for a few organizations.� She serves on the editorial board of the new journal, Youth Violence and Juvenile Justice.� She also continues research on the impact of transitional housing on the lives of battered women.

Cindy L. Miller-Perrin is currently Professor of Psychology and Blanche E. Seaver Professor of Social Science at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. She is also a clinical child psychologist and has worked with developmentally delayed, maltreated, and other troubled children and their families. She has coauthored three books, including Child Sexual Abuse: Sharing the Responsibility (with S. Wurtele, 1992), Child Maltreatment: An Introduction (with R. Perrin, Sage, 1999, 2007), and Family Violence Across the Lifespan (with O. Barnett & R. Perrin, Sage 1997, 2005, 2011). She is also the author or coauthor of numerous articles and book chapters on topics including child sexual abuse prevention, perceptions associated with child maltreatment, family violence, and psychology and religion. She enjoys teaching and researching with undergraduates and is the recipient of the 2008 Howard A. White Award for Teaching Excellence. She received her doctorate from Washington State University.

Robin D. Perrin is currently Professor of Sociology at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. His research interests and publications are in the areas of interpersonal violence, deviance theory, the social construction of social problems, and the sociology of religion. He is the coauthor of three books: Social Deviance: Being, Behaving, and Branding (with D. Ward & T. Carter, 1991), Child Maltreatment: An Introduction (with C. Miller-Perrin, Sage, 1999; 2007), and Family Violence Across the Lifespan (with O. Barnett & C. Miller-Perrin, Sage, 1997, 2005; 2011). He is the author or coauthor of numerous articles on a variety of topics related to religion, deviance, and interpersonal violence. He is the recipient of the 2004 Howard A. White Award for Teaching Excellence. He received his doctorate in sociology from Washington State University in 1989. Following his doctoral studies he was Assistant Professor of Sociology at Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington.

This was purchased for a social work summer class at my university. It will keep you reading. The information is invaluable and statistics are abundant. An ideal addition to my library for future reference. But, as I said, it will keep you busy reading in a ten week summer course. I recommend using it for a full semester course.

About the Author

Russ Hibbeler graduated from the University of Illinois-Urbana with a B.S. in Civil Engineering (major in structures) and an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University.

Hibbeler’s professional experience includes postdoctoral work in reactor safety and analysis at Argonne National Laboratory, and structural work at Chicago Bridge and Iron, Sargent and Lundy, Tucson. He has practiced engineering in Ohio, New York, and Louisiana.

He has taught at the University of Illinois-Urbana, Youngstown State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Union College. Hibbeler currently teaches at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

About the Author
John M. Butler is a NIST Fellow and Special Assistant to the Director for Forensic Science, Office of Special Programs, at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Dr. Butler earned his PhD from the University of Virginia while doing DNA research in the FBI Laboratory's Forensic Science Research Unit. He has won numerous scientific awards, including being named Science Watch’s #1 world-wide high-impact author in legal medicine and forensic science over the last decade (July 2011). He has over 150 publications in this field and is a frequent presenter on the topic of DNA typing, and has authored four other DNA Typing books including Advanced Topics in Forensic DNA Typing: Methodology. A GOOD PAGE TURNER FOR CERTAIN

I had heard this was the person who discovered the infamous SUPER HEAD Jarine Steffans and truly just wanted to get the scoop. I hadn't realized this book would be so juicy! (No pun) it's actually very touching and deep rooted and will get you emotionally invested. Trust you'll walk away not so quick to judge a book by its cover! (No pun) Can't wait to untill book TWO with all the tea ,) Great read!!! And much respect to the author for opening up and taking us on a journey and for his new lease on life! CONGRATS!

I enjoyed reading his book. It was honest, even through parts that most people would feel ashamed about. Even though it could use a little more editing, it did not take away from his story. I hope his next book deals with his stories within the porn industry.
